      If we think that in certain circumstances the ground behaves like a fluid, such as on the banks of rivers, on the seashore or even in land with a high water table during seismic events, (soil liquefaction) a structure that floats to prevent differential subsidence. This solution is typical in medium-sized buildings when we excavate the ground in a proportion equal to the weight of the building. And by mediums I mean the order of twenty levels of height.

    A floating bridge? In a place that has hurricane tidal surges of 20 ft?

    • @Virginiaelearning
      @Virginiaelearning Місяць тому

      Yes, engineering is amazing, and it has been done many times. Depending on the design, you can compensate so it actually floats (steel structure), or compensate at the bottom, like you would in a compensated foundation (concrete structure), so the tide wouldn't affect the bridge. You have many design choices, and again, there are many examples already across the USA.

    I'm not a structural engineer, but I can tell you that the supporting piers for the ramps to the bridge itself are not deep enough. The ground is mud just below the surface in that spot by the river. The old bridge used cofferdams to pour concrete footings. This thing won't last long

    Hi, just to let you know the BLACK PICKUP TRUCK, started the collapse. The weight of the truck dropped the parking garage to the floor and started the catastrophic domino effect. Water damage effected the concrete strength all the way to the planters near the 4th support column in the underground parking lot. Once the planter hit that column, it was just a matter of time.

    There’s way more evidence supporting the pool deck hypothesis. Besides if it were the AC unit, the top floors would have caved deeply then the rest falling at a slower rate. An updated video with more accurate info is recommended 🙄

    There is no way this was caused by an overload. This is a 40 year old building with constant load on the roof throughout the years. The collapse is mostly likely due to compromised columns in the garage pulled sideways by the failing slab

      Oh really, like when the HOA called in an engineer to give a report on the structural concerns, and the engineer told them it was bad, so the HOA told the town of Surfside and the Lead Building Instructor who review the report, then came to the HOA meeting a few weeks later and told the HOA that the building was fine and safe and they have nothing to worry about? Do not discard it. But there are many concrete structures in contact with water, salt water and black waters. And they have not collapsed. For example, sites foundations where the flattish level is highly contaminated with black water, the concrete becomes severely damaged, but not to the point of collapse. Here it is clear that there is an overload in a precariously structured building.

  • @Trialnerror
    @Trialnerror 3 роки тому

    There's way more evidence of structural failure due to a lack of maintenance then there is overloaded.

    • @pabloviadas7564
      @pabloviadas7564 3 роки тому

      I doubt that only maintenance may have avoided disaster. It should have been dismantled and restructured. Placing with an additional metallic structure. In all frames. Or more appropriate; Contracy again.

  • @Murph9000
    @Murph9000 3 роки тому

    You're quite wrong about the starting position of that object. You have it placed between roughly columns L2 and L4. It is the HVAC unit and support frame which sat on columns E2, H2, E4, H4; directly north of the elevator shaft. It was pulled down late in the collapse, when the E-H span north of the elevators was compromised. The collapse of the upper structure started around the I10-K10-L10-M10 columns, based on the CCTV footage from the building to the south.

    • @pabloviadas7564
      @pabloviadas7564 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the precision. But this does not rule out the hypotheses of overload in a poorly structured building. Note the connections between the slabs and the columns. Up to seven consecutive levels were clearly detached. Of having had beams or at least capitals, the disaster had been avoided.

    Must have been a very heavy piece of equipment

    • @pabloviadas7564
      @pabloviadas7564 3 роки тому

      The problem was not just that machinery. There was a huge accumulation of air conditioning equipment as seen in photographs. A normal building could charge it without problem. But if you observe the structuring, the relationship between the slabs and the columns is precarious. It is most of the lack of capitals or even beams.

    • @Murph9000
      @Murph9000 3 роки тому

      @@pabloviadas7564 There was no accumulation of air conditioning equipment. Everything you see was there in the 1979 plans, in the same general locations as originally built. Most of the units will have been replaced over the years, but the overall load and the way it is supported by the roof slabs and columns is largely unchanged. It is highly unlikely to be a major factor, unless the original design was catastrophically bad but somehow took 40 years to fail. Even the new big HVAC is likely irrelevant, as it combined two separate units which came to about the same size and it sat on the same 4 columns used for that since 1981 (two of those columns are still mostly intact, supporting the middle of the surviving northern end). Everything (CCTV, witness statements, etc) points to the collapse starting in the outdoor patio / plaza / pool deck, or in the basement garage. Lack of critical maintenance appears to be the primary causal factor, allowing major structural elements to fail, although the design and construction may well have had issues which contributed.
